Today we’re fishing at Home Farm in Little Walden. It is a day ticket fishery costing us only £10.
I started off on a ledger for 6-7 hours after arriving at 6am. I didn’t catch anything fishing on the margins of a little island so I started to cast out to the left of the island. I still didn’t catch anything. I was on hair rig to a size 8 barbless hook with 2 halibut pellets.
I then moved onto float where I was fishing under a tree on sweetcorn and luncheon meat. With this I caught two 1lb common carp.
It was coming up to midday it was getting hot and sunny. I wasn’t getting any takes so I moved onto surface fishing. With many various sized carp feeding on the surface I had lots of bites. (I was fishing in the shade). After a mini competition with my dad who caught a 5.5lb common carp the end result for me was 8 common carp ranging from 1 – 4.75lb.
Another good day fishing.

With what looked like a very warm day ahead of us I started out on float (as always) testing the bottom just off the bank under an overhanging tree, size 10 hook, sweetcorn as bait with surprisingly little success. Around 8am and the weather started getting warmer so I decided to try a little something different – floating bread – first time this season. I threw out a few bits as a test before changing rigs and to my surprise the bread was well taken straight away by a few reasonable carp. Nice!
Well that was it for the rest of the day, an absolute pleasure ending with a competition with Aaron and my first real success on the simplest yet most exciting method of carp fishing.
